By 10am in the average day in GA, the attic heats up to the point where there’s so much air being expelled that there’s not enough air coming in from the soffits. As the attic continues to heat up it begins to put a negative pressure on your house and pull the nice conditioned air from it. This negative pressure from the attic has to balance somewhere and that’s why the outside air begins to get pulled inside from all of your windows, doors, and penetrations. This air that is now getting pulled inside is also increases the relative humidity within your home, causing your HVAC to work harder. By encapsulating your attic with a spray foam solution, you can put a “lid” on your home and effectively stop the stack effect from happening at all! You will stop excess moisture from entering. Plus, your HVAC unit will run more efficiently and be able to control the relative humidity inside of it. Now that the HVAC unit is on the inside of the building envelope, you can enjoy a living environment that is 75 degrees instead of 135 degrees. Whether an HVAC is new or 20 years old, a unit starts blowing about 10 degrees colder and you’ll an impact on your energy bill almost immediately!
